Joseph’s first guitar

So today I bought one of those ukuleles I was talking about the other day, and presented it to Joseph. I was quite impressed by how long he managed to resist the urge to eat it or grab at the tuning pegs. I should point out at this stage that Joseph is my eight month old son.

I decided to get him the ukelele after realising that he liked my banjo playing very much, but if I sat too close, as with many things, he had a tendency to grab at the strings. Curiosity or an early musical talent? We should find out soon enough. Sitting with him today, with the ukulele in his lap he did at one point have it held in a roughly correct manner - left hand on fretboad in ‘chord’ shape and right hand on the strings, even if he was just hitting them. But, he’ll learn hopefully. Once we’ve made some progress I’ll post a photo or video. I’m guessing it will be at least a year but we’ll have fun trying.

In the meantime here I am on the web once again seeing what a uke tunes to and finding some chord charts I can use.
